For Churches: Endowment Management

For Churches: Endowment Management Services

An endowment is more than a financial asset — it is a lasting investment in the future of your church’s ministry and mission. Through thoughtful stewardship and professionally managed investments, endowments provide long-term financial stability that can sustain and strengthen ministry for generations to come.

Together with our parent organization, the Virginia United Methodist Foundation (VAUMF), the Foundery provides churches and agencies with trusted endowment management services designed to support long-term ministry impact. Whether your church is creating a new endowment or strengthening an existing one, we provide the guidance, investment oversight, and strategic support needed to help your resources make a lasting impact.

We help churches grow and steward their endowments through professionally managed investment portfolios that reflect United Methodist values and socially responsible investing (SRI) principles. By partnering with experienced institutional asset managers, we offer sustainable, long-term investment support tailored to each ministry’s needs.

Our Approach

Socially Responsible Investing

All Foundation investment funds align with the Social Principles and Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church. This includes screening out investments tied to industries such as alcohol, tobacco, gambling and weapons, while actively seeking companies with strong labor, human rights and environmental practices.

Professional Asset Management

The Foundation works with professional institutional investment managers and serves as a fiduciary on behalf of participating ministries. This way, churches of all sizes can benefit from sophisticated investment oversight and diversified portfolio management.

Stewardship for Long-Term Ministry

We help churches establish and maintain responsible spending policies that protect the long-term strength of their endowments while supporting today’s ministry needs.

Additional Support for Churches

The Foundation also provides:

  • Consulting and guidance for establishing endowments

  • Support for legacy giving and planned giving initiatives

  • Assistance drafting endowment bylaws and policies

  • Recommendations for appropriate investment vehicles

  • Guidance for churches already managing existing funds
