KEY INITIATIVES

Where focused giving drives impact

We believe impact is strongest when it is intentional. See where the Foundery Endowment is currently focusing our efforts.

Shineforth Child & Family Services Grant

The Foundery Endowment gifted Shineforth Child & Family Services $50,000, the Virginia United Methodist Foundation’s largest investment in a single organization, to fund an independent-living space benefiting:

  • high school students at Charterhouse School

  • youth served in our residential treatment program

  • teens who are actively in foster care

  • young adults aging out of foster care

Why you should get involved

  • Provides invaluable learning opportunities to youth who are preparing for adulthood and independent living

  • Independent-living laboratory will be built inside Charterhouse School on Shineforth’s historic Richmond campus and will be ready for the 2027-28 academic year

Micah 6:8/No Harm Do Good Endowment Grant

This grant funds outreach and ministry to persons or groups outside the United Methodist Church in the hopes of changing lives and transforming the world. This fund is not to replace or establish the giving of funds to church members or persons coming to a local church for assistance, nor is it to be used for evangelism.

Why you should get involved

  • Guiding the discernment process for the distribution of funds is Micah 6:8 and a similar focus from United Methodist heritage, John Wesley’s Three General Rules: “Do no harm. Do good. Stay in love with God.”

  • “God has told you, human one, what is good and what is required of you to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.”

Dr. William J. and Frances Hanna
Memorial Grant

The Dr. William J. and Frances Hanna Memorial Grant of the United Methodist Foundation of the Virginia Conference funds one high-impact initiative each year, with a focus on launching a new strategic ministry initiative that impacts the entire Conference. Funds may be used in any variety of directions for clergy or laypeople, local church planting and revitalization.

Built on institutional trust

The Foundery Endowment funds high-leverage initiatives through both permanent endowment and annual giving. As an initiative of the Virginia United Methodist Foundation, we are a trusted and credible organization dedicated to faithful giving through decades of financial governance and credibility.

Adaptive & responsive
for the modern era

Through defined priorities, we’re able to quickly adapt to emerging needs while maintaining strategic discipline. The Foundery Endowment was thoughtfully designed to be modern and forward-looking, serving the needs of our communities now and into the future.

“My heart and soul are so very warmed to see how the Micah grant is being used to sustain and enlarge such a ministry as Shineforth and to support the UMC in nurturing and caring for God’s children. Dream big, share resources generously and trust that lives will be touched by the merciful and strong hand of Christ!”
